History of Brinsley FC

Built on local football, community and opportunity

Brinsley FC has grown from a long-standing local passion for giving children the chance to play football, make friends, develop confidence and feel part of something positive.

The story of football in Brinsley goes back to the first Brinsley team founded by Gerry Moore, whose work helped create a footballing foundation for local players and families. That early spirit still matters today: football should be accessible, community-led and built around giving people a place to belong.

Over time, grassroots football in Brinsley continued to develop through the efforts of local coaches, volunteers and families who gave their time to support young players. One important chapter was ATFA Brinsley, led by Adam Thomas, which helped provide structured football opportunities for children in the area and gave many players the chance to train, play and grow in confidence.

Brinsley FC now carries that legacy forward into a new chapter. The club exists to give local children a safe, positive and inclusive place to play football. We are especially committed to supporting players of all levels and abilities – from children who are confident and competitive, to those who are still learning, developing or looking for the right environment to enjoy the game.

Our aim is not simply to build teams. It is to build a club with clear values, strong safeguarding, positive coaching and a genuine sense of community. We want every child to feel wanted, supported and proud to represent Brinsley.

Why the club exists

Brinsley FC exists to give children a fair chance to play, improve and belong.

We believe grassroots football should be about more than results. Winning is part of the game, and children should enjoy competing, but it should never come before safety, respect, learning or player confidence.

Our club stands for:

  • Player development – helping children improve at their own pace
  • Inclusion – supporting players of different levels, abilities and confidence.
  • Respect – treating teammates, coaches, referees, opponents and volunteers properly
  • Safeguarding – putting children’s welfare and safety first.
  • Community – representing Brinsley positively on and off the pitch.
  • Opportunity – giving children a place to play, learn and belong.

Carrying the legacy forward

From the first Brinsley team founded by Gerry Moore, through the ATFA Brinsley chapter with Adam Thomas, to the formation of Brinsley FC, the purpose has remained clear: local children deserve a positive football environment where they can develop, enjoy the game and feel part of a team.

Brinsley FC is proud to continue that legacy.

We want to be a club where players are coached with encouragement, where mistakes are treated as part of learning, where children are not written off, and where every player understands what they are working on and how they can improve.

That is why our club charter matters. It sets out the standards we expect from players, parents, coaches, volunteers and committee members, and it makes clear that welfare, respect and development come first.

Our future

Brinsley FC is building for the long term.

We want to create a club that families trust, players enjoy, volunteers are proud to support, and the local community can get behind. Our focus is on developing players, strengthening teams, supporting coaches, protecting children and creating a club culture that reflects the best of grassroots football.

Brinsley FC is here to give children a place to play, grow and belong – whatever stage of their football journey they are on.
